PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
