Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Wins First Championship in Over Two Years
19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts
A resurgent the Russian player won his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of that year.
Victory also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on court had caused some to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.
He rescued four initial break points in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, he secured the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
