The fast bowler Poised for a Significant Contribution in Ashes Series

Australian cricket captain

The Australian skipper has taken over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.

The Australian chair of selectors Bailey has declared that captain Pat Cummins will have a crucial role in the forthcoming Ashes series.

Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might be unavailable due to a ongoing back issue that was still troubling him.

Previous updates from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the extended contest set to start on the 21st of November in the WACA.

Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about the likelihood of being involved.

"We know that time is getting short and multiple considerations at play, aside from his injury, but additional elements," the selector added.

"The outlook is good. [We are] really confident that he will feature a significant role. Hopefully from the opening match. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."

Injury History

He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after examinations confirmed a lower back issue.

He has a history of spinal problems, with flare-ups in several earlier campaigns causing him to miss three Australian summers in a limited period.

Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his rehabilitation process to secure his spot for the series.

The selector indicated that he did not know if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his comeback but acknowledged it was "getting tight" for him to be fit for the opener.

Contingency Plans

Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.

Versatile player Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their limited-overs matches against the Asian giants as a preventive step because of discomfort in his torso.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he'll feature in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to resume bowling."

"Extensive planning has gone into developing the strategy for him to participate for the initial game as an dual-role player," Bailey explained.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games anyway. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, we opted to adopt a safer strategy."
